Will you be there when it all breaks apart?
I bring you updates about Storm Spells and my latest scheme to get more page time! (Yes, I have a new one already.)
Before I get back to my favorite thing in the universe to talk about and the reason you subscribed to this newsletter, (other than to read what I’m scheming about now), I need to update you on Storm Spells!
We’re en route to the climax and that’s so exciting. I have no idea how we’ll stop the cataclysm the collision of the two orbs started in Rogue Spells, but I know it’ll be epic.
How do I know this?
Because I have an epic party with me! But I lost my scribe a bunch of chapters ago so still need to find her.
Who am I?
I am Ran, Sarn’s chatty son from the Curse Breaker Series, and as of book 11 in that series, my little gift is active!
How’s that possible?
My scribe, Melinda, started writing Storm Spells midway through August 2025. But the 11th book in the Curse Breaker series (Chasing Dragons) came out already and at the end, you saw me use my little magical gift. Of course, the version of me in that book didn’t know I was doing that. But that means I can use it a little in Storm Spells since it publish after Chasing Dragons.
So who’s part of that epic party?
Sarn, my earth mage papa, who doesn’t do a whole lot of talking in this book. But I’m sure he’s thinking a lot about what we’re going to do about those orbs because that’s a magical problem, and he solves magical problems. If you want proof, read any of the 11 published books in the Curse Breaker Series.
Miren, my loveable uncle, who will hopefully come up with some kind of plan or help flesh out whatever plan Papa comes up with if Papa actually tells us his plan before he runs off to carry it out. Papa’s not a big fan of communication, but me and Uncle Miren are working with him on that.
Sovvan, my undead aunt turned angel, and I’m pretty sure she’s keeping something from me. I just haven’t figured out how to get her to tell me what her secret is. Maybe her secret will save us?
Misriah, papa’s guardian angel, and this bored warrior angel is doing all the fighting while I watch. I have no regrets about that. If the plan calls for muscle, she’s got that covered. Plus, she actually enjoys all the magical mayhem we get into.
Illuriel & Isaiah, the guardian angels that are supposed to be guarding Uncle Miren and me, but they spend most of their time as invisible presences judging us. Maybe they’ll get off their butts and lend a hand?
And last but definitely not least, digital dragons! That’s right. We have two in this book! One is the infamous Newsletter-Dragon who used to steal this newsletter from me and write to you and the other, you’ll meet in the Curse Breaker in NY Trilogy. And they have cool powers too. So maybe they’ll save us?
I can’t tell you where we are because I don’t know. The two orbs destroyed the world and we’re hanging onto a remnant of it and searching for a way to escape their fierce winds and penchant for melting cars. If there’s no newsletter next week, then we might not have escaped.
I have faith in my companions. Someone will figure out how to escape the orbs or stop them. Tune in next week to find out if we survived. It’s looking grim for us!
In case we do succeed, we should talk about my favorite thing in the world, the Curse Breaker series!
Last week, I said I couldn’t think of anything better to do to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Curse Breaker Enchanted, the original version, then for our scribe to write new books.
What new books will my scribe write?
If you missed that announcement, read it now:
Big Book News! Let's get you off that cliff
Hey! Last week, I left you on a little cliffhanger. I promised this week to fix that, so let’s go!
When is the 10th anniversary?
If you guessed Sept 25, 2026, then you are correct!
While I’m stuck waiting for someone to save us, I scrolled around on social media and now I have some ideas for how we could celebrate 10 years of magic and mayhem and found family.
How about fancy editions of the Curse Breaker Series?
There are options available now that we didn’t have access to in the past, like slip cases, something called white spot UV which makes part of the cover shine white, new colors for foiling, and fancy designs for the edge of the pages. We can do spot uv and foil on the same cover now, and that’s exciting.
So maybe it’s time to do fancy editions of the Curse Breaker Series. We held off on doing them before now because we didn’t have access to the fancy stuff, but we do now. And we don’t need to commit to a print run to do any of the items I listed above.
But the Curse Breaker Series isn’t just about us characters anymore. It’s about you because you’ve traveled with us and helped us defeat the Adversary, break the curse on the Aegaldar, and find dragons!
So what do you want?
We only put an option for individual books or 2-book omnibuses because the Curse Breaker series has some long books and putting 3 of them in an omnibus results in a very long book with a spine that’s over 3 inches thick.
If we do 2-book omnibuses, then we can offer them in hardcover or paperback and Melinda only needs to format each omnibus once. That cuts down on the work and also allows us to keep the interior the same. So no matter if you choose paperback or hardcover, you get the same inside. Just the binding is different.
And hopefully, the 2-book omnibus will be easier to read since it should be around 500-700 pages with a spine that’s about 1.5-2 inches thick. That should be much easier to read. And we can make it a readable font.
We like to use font size 12 and we can definitely do that with a shorter omnibus.
Also, if we have to do 2-book omnibuses, then Melinda will have to write book 16 so #15 is not all alone without a friend. I just point these things out because we like to be consistent.
I’m not saying that Papa might not do all the things Melinda wants him to do in books 12-15. But we all know he’s not going to because he’ll get caught up in things. So book 16 is inevitable.
Shouldn’t my scribe at least put it on the writing queue?
She doesn’t need to write the books Kpop Demon Hunters movie inspired this year. She can do that in 2027 or 2028 or 2029 when the sequel could be out. I’m just saying.
(If you agree with me, let us know!)
