Remember me?
Hi! It’s me, Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series. You remember me, right?
I know it’s been a few weeks, but you do remember me, right?
Please tell me you remember me… If you don’t this might be a bit awkward. No pressure. Maybe you remember me as the sunny son of a certain mage who thinks the adults in my fictional life are a bit weird.
(Because they are. But I still love them!)
Do you remember me now? (Please say yes!)
I’m back and ready for action (of the magical/fantasy variety) and to report on all that’s been going on behind the scenes. So let’s do that.
First off, the Robin of Larkspur series kickstarter went out with a bang late on Wednesday night. I won’t rehash that here.
If you backed it and you missed the update my scribe, Melinda, posted on Kickstarter on Thursday, you can read that here. She talks about what happens next and which stretch goals were unlocked. Make sure you come back after you read it. I’ll just wait here.
Are you back? Great! Onward! I have more updates to share.
Will the Robin of Larkspur special editions be available in a future Kickstarter? This was asked in the Kickstarter at the very end, and we just don’t know. The printing cost keeps rising but where is the line? What is too much to charge for such books?
That’s the question we’re grappling with right now as we decide whether to make the Riders of Apocalypse books early editions or special editions.
What’s the difference? Early editions would be the same as the retail version. You’d just get it many months before readers could buy them on retailers. Special editions would not be the same as retail editions and would have extras like gold foiling, printed edges, color artwork, etc which would not be in the retail edition.
We’ll do a poll but not today since I have another question we desperately need answered first.
This week, Melinda is hopefully writing the last chapters of Chaos Rises, (book 1 of the Riders of the Apocalypse series). And that brings us to our current dilemma.
Melinda’s birthday is on March 10, and we try to always publish a book on that day. But the book we planned on publishing (Catch the Scribe) isn’t done yet. That book harkens back to our early days of our association with her and tells the story of how a portal to our world ended up in her apartment and how she became our scribe.
It’s set during a dark time for Melinda after her sister (Carolyn) passed away and asked her to promise to publish all her stories. Since Feb. 22 marks the 11th anniversary of Carolyn’s death, this is weighing on our scribe’s mind a lot.
Why did Melinda put Catch the Scribe aside?
She stopped writing it a month after her father passed away at the end of last year. But Catch the Scribe is NOT a depressing book. It’s not even sad. It’s as humorous as the other companion books with all the magical mayhem and banter you love.
But it’s partially set in NY in the real world and we almost get deleted by an evil entity so it does start in a darkish place. But if there’s no darkness, then how can we shine bright?
So I think Melinda will work on finishing Catch the Scribe before writing the end of Chaos Rises. And not just because that will give me lots of new scenes. (But it will do that since it’s a Curse Breaker book and who else would Papa get into trouble with besides me and Uncle Miren?)
But that brings up an important question. When Melinda finishes Chaos Rises, do we hold Chaos Rises so we can launch it in a kickstarter with the rest of the books in the series when they’re all written?
Or do we release the books in the series as they are finished?
How do you want to read them? Curious characters want to know. So I created a poll!
So we have a dilemma. We just want to entertain you with fun stories, but we can achieve that goal either way. So we need feedback!
I’ll report back to you next week about where we go from here because we’re standing at a crossroad with no idea where to go hence the poll. Sway us with your opinion!
And now onto something that isn’t a dilemma! Last week, the last parts of the full cast audiobook for Summon the Gods went up on YouTube and Spotify. So you can now listen to books 1 & 2 of the Rogue Gods Trilogy there for free.
Make sure to like and follow us! It helps this algorithm thingy.
Melinda’s working on the audiobook for Storm the Gates (book 3 of the Rogue Gods Trilogy) next, so that’s coming soon.
And that’s all I have for you today. Melinda is surprised and grateful for how the Kickstarter went. We honestly didn’t know if it would fund, but it did! People wanted Robin’s story and even though she and I have our issues, I’m happy that people want her story.
But now it’s time for me to hog all the writing time and get all the new scenes! I will of course share those scenes with my uncle and my papa. I’m magnanimous like that!
That’s all I have for you today. This is Ran, Sarn’s son, signing off. Do you remember me now?
