No Bunny, No Problem!
Hi and Happy Easter to those who celebrate it! It’s Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series and I’m here reporting from your world! And oh boy, do I have some exciting updates for you! Let’s grab our favorite snack (all-fruit for me!) and sit down for the latest adventure.
First off, let’s talk about special editions. You know, the beautiful Robin of Larkspur books that YOU helped bring to life. Well...
The Books Are (Almost) All Home!
That’s good news since I and my fellow characters only exist when you read our stories. (That might be why I write to you every week.)
No one has to pay any tariffs! Hooray! Most of the Robin of Larkspur special edition books have cleared customs, and we just learned that books aren’t subject to tariffs. At least not if they come from the UK like our books did. (I’d like to think my dad’s magic helped a little with that, but we’ll let you decide!)
Many books were delivered! Many of you have already received your books this week! If you’re among that lucky group, I hope they are as perfect as the last round of proofs we received.
If you’re still waiting, worry not! You’re books are on their way! It takes time to travel across the ocean, so hang in there for just a little longer. I’m keeping an eye on everything (with Melinda’s help, of course), and we’ll make sure every book goes to its new home.
What’s Next?
Melinda’s been busy! In addition to refreshing tracking links for the Robin of Larkspur special edition kickstarter, she’s hard at work on the next Kickstarter!
You’ll soon be able to back illustrated omnibuses for the His Angelic Keeper series AND the first illustrated book in its sequel series, Chaos Rises.
Just wait until you see the artwork! Melinda’s waiting on the final print proofs before launching.
(Yes, we’re still waiting. There were some communication issues between the website where we placed the order and the machine that prints the books. I told customer support to turn it off and back on again to fix the issue, but it took a week for them to get our order to the printer and as of Friday, the proofs finally printed!
Now we just need to wait for them to ship to us. The proofs are coming from somewhere within the US so they should arrive more quickly than when we order proofs from the printer in the UK. We hope they’ll arrive this week. All my fingers and toes are crossed and my ankles too!
If this printer works out, you could get pretty books for a more affordable price in our next Kickstarter. So we hope the books are pretty and error-free. Follow the next kickstarter here.
And now, it’s time for a poll since our scribe is being extra and cannot make a decision. So I volunteered you to help her decide what to do.
What’s the problem? Well, Melinda designed the retail cover with a less frightening version of the former Angel of Death who became Death, the fourth rider of the apocalypse at the end of His Angelic Keeper Tempted for the retail version (not illustrated) version.
The final for that cover is here:
But then since Melinda is extra, as I said above, and she liked things to match, she designed another image to match the new look for the illustrated His Angelic Keeper series omnibuses. And she planned to use that as the title page art in this spread:
And then I might have said that the green Chaos Rises art should be on the cover for the illustrated version in the Kickstarter since it matches the art on the His Angelic Keeper series omnibuses.
(The angels pictured in the mockup above are obviously Misriah, my aunt’s grumpy warrior angel sidekick if you were wondering. She does a whole lot more than grump around in Chaos Rises. So if you’ve wanted to see her in action, that’s the book for you. She also bosses my aunt around because my aunt needs some direction sometimes. But I digressed.)
And now the scribe is in a muddle. She’s thinking that the green Chaos Rises art should be the cover for the illustrated edition in the Kickstarter and that would make the three books match like so:
She could put the retail edition cover as the title page and then that art would still be in the book. I told her this but I think she needs to hear it from you and then she’ll make a final decision and order a proof copy of Chaos Rises. So it’s time for a poll!
I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t we already order a copy of Chaos Rises from the printer?
We tried, but remember that communication problem I mentioned earlier? The order didn’t go through. So Melinda decided (wisely in my opinion) to wait until we received the proofs for the His Angelic Keeper illustrated omnibuses since that order did go through to the printer.
If they look as pretty as we hope, then she can order Chaos Rises from them.
Thank you for helping us out with our art dilemma.
In other news, Catch the Scribe is fully drafted!
Melinda is editing it and struggling a bit with that since there’s a lot going on where she works. The buyout seems to be picking up speed and the company is making some changes. She’s working hard and hoping she’ll be one of the employees they keep.
So that means no in-office adventures for me. I’ve been a good character, and I haven’t tried to convince the portal to take me to her office so I can visit her at work. It’s been hard, but I don’t want her to get into trouble.
So I’m being the bigger character here and staying in my own world even though your world has many buttons I long to push and blinking lights I miss staring at and wondering what they do. But I must do this for my scribe!
What’s Catch the Scribe about?
What happens when a certain scribe (cough, Melinda, cough) gets caught up in the magical mayhem that usually targets my family? You’ll just have to read to find out! Melinda finished drafting this novel last week, and now she’s editing it so you can experience all the excitement for yourself. It’s got everything: magic, chaos, me (obviously), and plenty of surprises.
With things so up in the air at work and everyone wondering who the new owners will keep and who will get axed, Melinda needed to write something lighter so I got a lot of page time and many brand new scenes. How did I get that?
Melinda started writing Book Battles, the sequel to Catch the Scribe. What’s Book Battles about?
How we ended up with a dragon made of code, and why we had keep her around even though she betrayed us later in Dragon Spells. (We didn’t know she’d do that.)
You can read Book Battles as Melinda writes it on Patreon or Substack. Become a patron or upgrade your Substack membership to read Book Battles. Melinda is committed to writing and posting 4 chapters a week despite all the upheavals at work, and we know she can do it since she’s written all our books that way for the past 3+ years.
Melinda wants to start working on Chaos Reigns, the sequel to Chaos Rises, but she needs things to settle out at work and to get back to a consistent schedule.
Thank You
I just wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU for reading Melinda’s books, for taking part in our adventures, for rooting for us, and for being so patient while we wrap things up with the Robin of Larkspur Kickstarter and get the next one going.
I can’t wait for you to read everything Melinda’s writing.
Happy reading!
This is Ran, Sarn’s son, writing for my scribe, Melinda, signing off!
P.S. If you’ve already received your Robin of Larkspur special edition and want to share photos, send them along. We’d love to see them!
