Wizards, Demon Hunters, & A Long-Awaited Hug
This week, we talk to wizards, demon hunters, and revolutionaries. Plus, the hug you've been waiting for (with pictures!).
I hope you had a good week since we last talked and enjoyed some good barbecue!
Last week, I suggested that my scribe finalize the following books:
Catch the Scribe (retail paperback, no images)
Book Battles (retail paperback, no images)
Rogue Characters (retail paperback, no images)
Dragon Spells (retail paperback, no images) - Melinda updated the front and back matter and the formatting to align with the prequels
Rogue Spells (retail paperback, no images) - Melinda updated the front and back matter and the formatting to align with the prequels
Tales of the Curse Breaker in NY Books 1-3 (illustrated hardcover with gold foil on the cover. It includes Catch the Scribe, Book Battles, & Rogue Characters)
Newsletter Adventures Books 1-2 (illustrated paperback with gold foil on the cover. It includes: Catch the Scribe & Book Battles.)
Newsletter Adventures Books 3-4 (illustrated paperback with gold foil on the cover. It includes: Rogue Characters & Dragon Spells.)
So she did that and we ordered proof copies of all of those books. We should receive them in early October. That brings us one step closer to the launch which Melinda still hopes will be in November. It’s certainly possible if she keeps writing as often as she can. But we won’t have the final launch date until Storm Spells is done, and it’s not done yet.
Melinda would also like some more details about her new position before committing to a date to make sure that she can handle both the launch and the new job duties at the same time. Hopefully, those details will get ironed out soon. Right now, Melinda just has a title, a start date for the end of Sept and the name of her new manager. But that’s it.
I agree that we need details like how much commuting she’ll have to do and what will happen to the vacation days she scheduled for the holidays? We have so many questions, but we’re grateful that she will have a job, so she can keep writing fun fantasy adventures to entertain you, and I can get all the page time!
Okay, maybe not all of it because for plot reasons some characters need to get some page time too. I can be the bigger character and allow that as long as I get more page time as well. It’s got to be reciprocal because that’s fair.
Speaking of the plot, I think I lost it somewhere, so onto another fun digression!
Demon Hunters & Book Spoilers
Melinda watched Kpop Demon Hunters so of course, I joined her and we watched it together. We loved it, but I kept getting distracted by Jinu because he looks kind of like Papa. So it was weird seeing a guy who looks like Papa doing things Papa would never do.

You see the resemblance right? Even their haircuts are similar, and they’re both tall. I’m not hallucinating. Or am I?
Papa would have helped Rumi up and his magic could easily put all the juice packs back into the box and hand it to her. Of course, Papa is really quick with the magic these days so Rumi wouldn’t have fallen at all. His magic would have caught her and the box if he couldn’t catch both in time. He’s shy so he would have just apologized as he backed away.
Probably the most jarring moment was at the end. Papa would have just throw up a shield and the fiery demon could throw all the fire he liked at it. How do I know it would have held?
Because we recently tested Papa’s shield against dragon fire. You can read all about that in Book Battles, book 2 of the Tales of the Curse Breaker in NY Series, so I won’t tell you how that happened.
I can’t confirm if I instigated this. Obviously, Papa was trying to protect me and Uncle Miren. That’s the only reason he’d take on a dragon. I won’t tell you who won that battle, but you can probably guess since I’m still here and able to write to you. Don’t tell anyone else! It’s a secret!
Okay, that’s enough spoilers for one week onto:
Book News!
This past week, a lot happened besides Melinda reading through the contract for her new position and filling out paperwork. Two authors reached out and asked if they could come on our podcast and talk to Melinda about their books.
Since both books sounded really interesting, of course Melinda said yes. She loves to talk about books, and not just our books, but also books she didn’t write. So she did that and I have not one or two brand new podcast episodes to tell you about but three!
Yes, you read that right. Three new podcast episodes dropped on Spotify this week and 3 new YouTube videos too!
So let’s talk about them!
Latest Podcast Episodes:
New Episode #1: Together We Rise
In the first episode that dropped this week, Melinda talked to Richie Billing about his book, Together We Rise. It’s a political, character-driven grimdark fantasy with urban fantasy elements. Eight lives—each scarred by loss, betrayal, and violence—intertwine as they fight for their futures and that of the city. As Pietalos teeters on the edge of a new era, these eight individuals must fight for justice, revenge, and redemption. Listen on Spotify. Watch the interview now:
New Episode #2: Do you want an update?
We like to keep our updates separate from interviews with other authors, so Melinda recorded a 10 ish minute update for you just on what’s going with her and our books. In this short episode, our scribe, Melinda, talks about the new job, books she’s finished and the book she’s writing now (Storm Spells), and what books she plans to write next next. Listen on Spotify. Watch on YouTube:
New Episode #3: The Midwizard of Cosconia
In this episode, Melinda talked with Zack Schoppen about his book, The Midwizard of Cosconia, a character-driven fantasy that explores pregnancy, childbirth, and maternal health in a magical world. In a land where Maternal Magic once protected every mother and child, birth has become deadly. Fresh out of midwizardry school, Izzie is determined to use her blood magic to save the lives of every mom and baby she can, but Maternal Magic is waning each year and no one knows why.
