Why the plan changed (more new books for you)
Hi! I am back and before I get into some book news and update you on the status of my side quest, I need to put something in your head so I’m not the only one who sees this.
Who am I? I’m Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker Series. Hi!
What do I need to put in your head?
Well, Melinda was writing as she does, ( I encourage this), and I guess she was tired (not of me obviously). So she stared at the screen with her hands hovering above the keyboard for a while and I had to get involved.
Thinking is good but not when it goes on for too long because thinking is not writing. Writing is typing so words show up on the page. But no words appeared for a while and that was bad. After all, we’re at the big climax, and I want to resolve that in the most satisfying way possible so Melinda agrees to my side quest!
Me: “What are you thinking?”
Melinda: “I just misread the word “damaging” as “de-maging” and now I can’t unsee that. I need to know what de-maging is and how one de-mages someone.”
Me: *stares at my scribe utterly dumbfounded*
So, can you unsee that? Or are you wondering what a de-maging process might look like?
It sounds painful to me so I tried to think of something to get the scribe back on track and away from de-maging people. There’s one mage in my life, my papa, and he needs to stay magical. So no de-maging for him!
Books news!
Melinda is still writing the end of Rogue Characters. It’s shaping up to be the longest book in the Tales of the Curse Breaker trilogy, and that’s probably not a surprise. I must get all the page time I can before it ends in case Melinda doesn’t agree to my side quest idea.
So I’ll have to update you on the status of the side quest next week since its fate still hangs in the balance. But I’m optimistic about it, and I’ll keep pitching it to my scribe until she says yes.
Why do I need a side quest?
Why would I not need one? That’s really the question. You can read all my reasons here:
🧭 Why I Need a Side Quest (Hear Me Out)
Hi! I’m back in your inbox because it’s Monday and that’s just what I do. I hope my arrival brightens your week because I’ve got to talk about dragons, couch monsters, and time travel but maybe not in that order.

Wait, you actually thought I was just scheming behind the scenes about how to get a single side quest?
Or were you side-eyeing my last email and looking for clues about what else I’m dreaming up? Well, look no further!
I am ready to spill all the beans and tea about it. So sit down and get comfy because I have an idea to run past you. And if you like it, hopefully Melinda will too.
(If you don’t like the idea, then it was all her idea. I was barely involved. I just need to get that out in the open before we dive in. But I think I digressed again.)
The Idea
Well, you know how we've been saying that the brand new trilogy (Tales of a Curse Breaker in NY to be specific) based on our world spanning, portal fantasy adventures in your world will launch in September?
Well, what if you could get your hands on even more entertaining stories starring me that are guaranteed to end in a happy way?
After all, we have to save our scribe or there won't be any more books or newsletters, and our world will disappear and yours might too. We don't really know what will happen if we fail, so we’ll just make sure to succeed, okay?
Since you're reading this newsletter and there are still new books coming out, we obviously succeeded. But you don't know how we succeeded. You need to read the books to find that out. But I got off track somewhere. Back to the idea.
The Idea Continued
The new trilogy, Tales of the Curse Breaker in NY, is actually the prequel to another series.
What series is that? The Curse Breaker’s Companion Series.
The Curse Breaker’s Companion Series currently has two books out in the world and Melinda plans to write the third one (titled, Storm Spells,) as soon as she finishes Rogue Characters.
But Storm Spells is not a blank page waiting for words. Melinda has a messy draft of the story, and she knows how it ends now. So she could finish it maybe by the beginning of Sept. Maybe before if I don't run off on too many side quests.
I’m still thinking about what side quests we’ll need in that book, so I can’t comment on that right now. Even if I don’t go off on any side quests, there will still be lots of new material that wasn't in the story when it published in the newsletter in March 2018.
So we’re wondering if you'd be okay with us pushing the launch of the kickstarter for Tales of the Curse Breaker in NY series back a few weeks possibly into Oct. And for your patience, you could get the complete newsletter story arc from its humble origins.
That's 6 novels, and 4 of them are brand new. You could get them as separate books and for omnibus lovers, as two pretty fancy omnibuses. As always there will be ebooks too.
