What’s Next for Chaos Rises + More!
Hey! It’s Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series, and I’m back with another update, as promised. Last Monday was my scribe Melinda’s birthday, and I convinced her to celebrate by writing more of my stories (because what better gift is there than me?).
So how did that go? Did my story dreams come true? Well, sort of! Some other characters got lots of page time, but don’t worry. I’ll get a turn soon!
So what did Melinda write?
Melinda wrote a lot of chapters for Chaos Rises. That’s the book where my aunt, Sovvan, and Fay take on the stalled apocalypse, one rider at a time. At least, that’s the plan. They might have gotten sucked into a few side quests, thanks to everything happening at the same time as the events of the Rogue Gods Series and Curse Breaker books 8–11, but I think that just made the story more exciting.
After all, more chaos means more magic, more action, and more chances for characters to shine!
And that brings me to the bestest news of all!
Melinda finished the first draft of Chaos Rises! So it’s off to editing now where chapters get polished and sometimes moved around or added. So it’s not in its final form yet, but it’s closer than it was.
Chaos Rises clocks in at 116,000 words so it’ll probably be 425-450 pages in print or roughly the same length as Melinda’s books usually are.
It’s been a whirlwind adventure with Sovvan, Misriah, Fay, Fay’s family, and all the trouble they got involved in. I really want to put a massive spoiler here, but Melinda will just delete it because until she rereads the book to check the pacing and flow, nothing is final. So more chapters could move to the sequel than the three she already moved.
So when can you get your hands on this new adventure bursting with new forms of magic and loads of snark?
Hopefully sometime in April or May, but we’re keeping things flexible until the edits and the cover are finalized.
What I can promise: Chaos Rises will debut on Kickstarter first. For those avoiding Amazon, this will be your chance to grab a copy, possibly with some fun extras you can’t get anywhere else.
Details are still in the works, but Kickstarter's lower fees mean more resources for writing new books and sharing even more magical adventures with you. Stay tuned! I’ll have more to share soon!
I’m going to hand over the keyboard so Melinda can talk directly to you for a moment, but don’t go away because I have more news!
If you backed my February Kickstarter campaign for the Robin of Larkspur special edition books, thank you for your patience and support. We’re SO close to the finish line. All orders for hardcover books and all paperback orders that do not include book 3 have been placed.
I’m just waiting on one final proof copy of Book 2 (Rogue Night), which is already speeding its way across the Atlantic and should arrive early next week.
Once I confirm it’s error-free, I’ll place the remaining orders, monitor the printer for shipping updates, and send tracking links your way. It’s been quite the journey getting this proof perfected, but I promise it’ll be worth it. Thank you again for your understanding. It means the world to me! I’ll keep you posted until every last book reaches its new home!
Until then, I’m rereading Chaos Rises to make sure the story is polished, the twists hit just right, and all the chaos is chaotic enough. And now back to Ran since he’s hovering over my shoulder waiting for me to stop writing to you.
I’m back. This is Ran, and as promised I have more updates.
If you’re wondering about Catch the Scribe, the story is still unfolding. That means there’s more page time up for grabs, and I am trying to grab it all.
Melinda keeps asking how much more story is left to write and I keep telling her I’ll know when it’s done. But it’s not done yet. So start a new chapter and get ready to type what I tell you!
She hopes to wrap up the first draft soon so maybe Catch the Scribe and Chaos Rises can release together! Won’t that be fun?
And now for something a little different. Since we’ve been talking about chaos, who’s the most chaotic character from Melinda’s stories so far?
Let me know! I’m betting it’s me, though Auntie Sovvan might be a close second. Or maybe you think it’s someone else entirely? I want to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for being part of this wild journey we call book publishing. I can’t wait to share more updates next week. Your support means everything, and I hope you’re as excited as I am for what’s to come.
Until next time, may your bookshelves always be filled with fun adventures that star me! 😉
