Hey,
It’s Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series.
This newsletter almost didn’t happen this week. Why? Because Melinda’s down for the count with a sinus and an ear infection. Since I’m a good character, I sent her to the nearest urgent care to get help. So she’s on antibiotics now and hopefully on the mend.
I told her to rest, and I grabbed the keyboard. It’s my time to shine! So now you’re wondering what I could possibly have to talk about. Plenty actually! Just because Melinda is sick that doesn’t mean she did nothing. So what did she accomplish?
Sneak Peek of the Tales of a Curse Breaker in NY Special Edition
We’re still on track for a September Kickstarter to launch the full trilogy, Tales of a Curse Breaker in NY. That series includes:
Book 1: Catch the Scribe (done! and sent to our supporters on Patreon and Substack)
Book 2: Book Battles (done! and sent to our supporters on Patreon and Substack)
Book 3: Rogue Characters (in progress!)
Since 2 of the 3 books are done, I said to Melinda, “don’t you think you should start working on the special edition’s interior pages?”
Melinda looked at me like that was a great idea because it is, and she started working on it finally. I thought she was going to argue that she needed all three books done before starting that, but she didn’t say that at all. I was pleasantly surprised.
So this week, I can share with you a sneak peek at one of the exclusive features for the special editions: the page edge design! It's looking pretty awesome, if I do say so myself (and I do).
On the top, there’s a dark tower and a dragon and on the bottom of the edge design is the NY skyline. We kind of have to put that there since the book takes place in the NY Metro area and we do go to the city a few times.
Want to be part of the first wave to get all three books—including early access to the custom editions?
👉 Follow the campaign to get notified when it launches. As usual, we don’t have a date set since it depends on Melinda finishing the third book, and that depends on me. Will I lead my ragtag family to save her?
(I will do that because I have to if I want more books. But will I need to do a side quest before I do that? That’s the question I’m wrestling with this week while Melinda is ill. It’s weird how that worked out. She can’t stop me if I decide a side quest is necessary. But I digress.)
Book Battles Update
(That’s Book 2, for Those Keeping Track)
This week, paid subscribers on Substack and Patreon received the full ebook of Book Battles ahead of the Kickstarter. That’s one of the perks if you support Melinda’s writing as it happens, you get access to the completed books months early.
If you aren’t a subscriber yet and want to read stories before anyone else ever sees them join us on either platform below:
Subscribing gets you 4 chapters a week and spoilers. Lots of spoilers. Especially when I go off-script (which happens a lot).
Rogue Characters Update
We’re very close to the final arc of Rogue Characters, Book 3 of the trilogy. Melinda thought maybe she’d hit the last act this week. But then the most awesome thing happened.
Do you know what that was? NO? I’ll tell you.
So Melinda was scrolling through threads looking at what other authors are saying that they are doing when she came across a post that said:
So I happened to see this, and I asked Melinda to put that bag monster in Rogue Characters so I can watch Papa fight them. I might even help. Who knows? Melinda hasn’t written that yet, so anything can happen!
Isn’t that exciting?
If you want to be the first to read about my family vs the bag monster, then join us behind the wall on Patreon or Substack. The latest chapters of Rogue Characters will go out this week. Melinda already wrote most of them and just needs to finalize them. So she can do that while resting. I’ll help!
Is anything else going on?
Yes, actually. We were busy this week.
🎧 You can now listen to the full-cast audiobook of Summon the Gods (Rogue Gods Trilogy, Book 2) in one video on YouTube. Over 9 hours of adventure await you.
🎧 Listen here.
That’s it for this week. Send Melinda some healing vibes and I’ll make her some tea with lemon with honey. I’ll also make sure she rests after she uploads the next round of chapters.
Until next time,
—This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Tales of the Curse Breaker in NY series, signing off.
