What army is this?
Hi,
Let’s start off with the best kind of news, book news!
So what’s going on with our books?
Melinda is still writing (and fighting with the characters in):
Chaos Rises - book 1 of the Riders of the Apocalypse series which will hopefully include some of said riders. The characters are currently checking out an army that might be marching toward Fay’s home. But there wasn’t supposed to be an army in this book, so we don’t know where it came from, who’s leading it or what it wants other than to march around and kick up dust.
Chaos Rises is supposed to be part of a quadrilogy, but the quadrilogy is trying really hard to grow an extra book and turn into a 5-book story arc. Not sure what you call that, a pentalogy? (Wikipedia says this is a real word that means a literary work divided into 5 parts, but is it really a real word? I need to know.)
Catch the Scribe - a totally not fictional account of how we got our story told with lots of magic and a quest because who doesn’t love a quest? Oh and our world gets destroyed more than usual in a Curse Breaker book. But we’ll hopefully find a way to reverse that so we have somewhere to live.
Both books are humorous fantasy adventures, but you knew that already. We don’t know when you can get your hands on them yet, but you can read them as Melinda writes them on Patreon. We’ll have some more excerpts of Catch the Scribe in this newsletter soon and an excerpt of Chasing Dragons, the next Curse Breaker book too!
You can order Chasing Dragons now and you’ll get it on January 6th, which would have been Melinda’s father’s 77th birthday if he didn’t pass away in September. So we’re publishing the book that day to honor him.
In either January or February, the Warrior Mom Epic Fantasy Adventure Special Edition kickstarter should run. We’re just waiting for the last set of proofs for the illustrated versions of Rogue Ranger (book 4), Rogue Gift (book5), and Robin of Larkspur Books 4-5 (the omnibus edition).
We want to make sure their edges print the same red as the proof copies pictured above for the illustrated versions of Hunter’s Night (book 1), Rogue Night (book 2), Rogue Ranger (book 3), Robin of Larkspur Books 1-3 (the omnibus edition).
What’s that about? A mother fights to save her child from monsters in 5 quests collected in special illustrated editions w/gold foiling & sprayed edges. (And Papa uses his magic to help her because the people who took her daughter also grabbed me too.
Who am I? I am Ran, Sarn’s son, and sidekick. I’m also a mage and I kick butt in the Rogue Gods series, which you can listen to on YouTube! Parts 1-7 of the full cast recording are up, and they include chapters 1-29.
Fun fact! Robin of Larkspur Books 4-5 (the omnibus edition) is a lot longer than Robin of Larkspur Books 1-3 (the omnibus edition) because the books included were longer.
Due to the length of the omnibuses, we’re just going to have them as hardcover books and the individual books as paperbacks because once a paperback gets over 500 pages, it strains the spine. The interior for the paperbacks and the omnibuses are identical, so you’re not missing anything by getting one or the other.
The only difference is the exterior art is different on the omnibuses. But the individual book covers are included inside the omnibuses. Books 1-4 include a lot of stock photography of wintry landscapes plus original character art. So Robin’s not glaring at you from every chapter heading.
She can get kind of intense, so you get a break from her to look at snowy forests and snowy mountains instead. No art repeats from book to book. Every chapter heading and full page photo or illustration is unique this time.
This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series and I checked to make sure the art is similar but not the same from book to book. So every image is unique this time.
Follow the campaign to get notified when it launches. The preview page has the latest cover mockups and previews of the illustrated pages.
The Scribe has some stuff going on outside our books, but right now, it’s not affecting anything, and we don’t know if it will. So for now, we’re just keeping our eyes on it since there’s nothing we can do about the situation.
I’m sorry I’m being so vague. It’s not something we can talk about in public since it has to do with the scribe’s day job and some changes there. But we can talk about it over on Patreon and we will if interferes with anything.
So for now, we’ll just pretend everything is fine because it is, and we’ll hope it stays that way or a new opportunity comes along if it isn’t.
That’s it for this week!
