We got sprayed (edges)!
New sprayed edge designs and book news inside. Come and see!
Hi,
It’s Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker Series and I am back with good book news and pretty pictures.
What news did I bring you this week?
We have unique sprayed edges!
Finally, we have the sprayed edge design for Tales of A Curse Breaker in NY Books 1-3 hardcover omnibus. The designs are not actually sprayed. They are printed on the edge of the pages.
What design did we go with? Character art! All three sides features different character art.
What do I mean by sides?
Well, a page has 4 sides. One side gets bound into the spine to hold the book together, so that side doesn’t get a pretty picture. But the other three sides do!
Someone once said a picture is worth a thousand words, so let me show you since we have digital mockups from the printer.
On the top of the book, we have character are of Papa and me. I’m the one creeping around in search of page time.
Does the image look familiar?
It should! Melinda created the image in 2018/2019. At the time, it was for a possible card game. We haven’t forgotten about that game. We just haven’t figured out the logistics yet. But Melinda still wants to do it. Since the game might spoil some things, she wants to get the books out that features those cool things first.
We could keep gatekeeping the original artwork Melinda created for the game years ago. But I told her that’s a bad idea. Why not let that art out so it can grace our books?
That image belongs on here since you actually get chapters from Papa’s point of view in the Tales of A Curse Breaker in NY trilogy.
(This is a digital mockup from the printer, so it will likely print darker than it appears. As soon as we get copies, we’ll take pictures.)
On the side of the book, we have another image Melinda created back in 2018 when she first thought about writing books based on the zany adventures we have in your world. This is an idealized version of our scribe. She’s nowhere near this tall or fashionable.
On the bottom of the book, it’s only fitting that our newsletter-dragon grace the pages. Here she is, hoarding books since that’s her default state when not helping me write and send out newsletter. Since this trilogy tells her origin story as well as Dysteria’s, it’s only fair if our dragon appeared on it:
We can’t promise she won’t horde your books too. That’s the risk you take when you invite her into your home.
So that’s exciting. Not our dragon hording books, but the sprayed edges! I can’t wait until we get the proof copy so we can see how it actually prints.
Well, I have plans to put myself all over the pages of Curse Breaker’s Companion Books 1-2. But those edges are still in development. (Some characters don’t agree that I should be the sprayed edge design on all three sides of the page.)
So hopefully. we’ll have the final version next week for your viewing pleasure after a few arguments get settled.
Why add sprayed edges?
We made you wait many months longer than intended for these books. So I talked my scribe into making them even more epic than ever.
What happened to the skyline?
It’s still there! This is another digital preview, but you can see the skyline and the dragon are still on page. Melinda moved them in from the edges so they don’t interfere with the sprayed edges shown above. She also removed some, so the city skyline just borders the beginning of every chapter.
To get a copy of this stunning book, make sure to follow our Kickstarter.
We’ll have ebooks as well. We’re not just offering the hardcover omnibuses. We try to have something for every fan, so you can still get the books early to enjoy before anyone else no matter what you like.
So that’s my news for this week.
Melinda is still writing Void Spells, and we have definitely run off with the plot. But I promise to give it back soon. But maybe not too soon. We’ll see. I must get my page time!
I have no news on the Amazon situation because nothing has happened. We are exactly where we were last week. They know what they need to do, but they just aren’t doing it. So we still have no access to our books for sale on Amazon, for the fourth week in a row. :(
Since her Amazon account is still screwed up, our Scribe hit the Christmas markets and local shops for gifts and she picked up some cool stuff like locally made unfiltered honey, maple syrup, mulled wine spices, eggnog mix, (did you know there was a mix for that?), and hot cocoa mix.
It’s going to be a sweet Christmas! She plans to bake something (no idea what yet) and maybe make peanut butter balls for old time’s sake. It wouldn’t be a proper send off for her coworkers who will be let go in January without them. Melinda stopped making them in 2020. So she’s thinking about making them one last time in memory.
So it’s a bittersweet time. She’s also jotting down notes for Curse Breaker Jousts whenever she has a moment. So my chances of extending the adventure to another book look grim right now. I might actually have to let Void Spells end the saga of the two orbs.
We’ll see. Come back next week to find out because I think this week will be pivotal. Events will either end the book or hand me the perfect reason for another sequel.
