Unlock up the Map!
Hi again, this is Melinda, your scribe. Ran will be back soon.
He’s right here trying to grab the keyboard from me. But sometimes, I need to come out from behind the keyboard and talk to you directly. And this is one of those times, even though it frustrates Ran a lot. He’ll say his piece soon, I promise!
We’re seven days into the Kickstarter campaign, and the excitement is growing! 🎉 Have you checked out the exclusive special-edition books yet?
The first stretch goal is unlocked already. So every copy of the Robin of Larkspur series SE books will have a unique designed backer thank you page.
The next stretch goal is for a map of Robin’s and Sarn’s world. The characters have promised to abide by this map and to respect it. So I’m pulling out an old map I made of their world and updating it because they changed it a lot over the years. Since you’ve never seen it, that’s okay.
This map will not be one of those geographically accurate maps you see in most modern fantasy books because such a map would be unbelievable. Jerlo’s map isn’t accurate when you get beyond the capital region and his is the most accurate map that exists in-world.
So how could the book have a map that’s more accurate than his map?
It can’t. So I’m looking into somehow creating a map of Shayari like the one in his office. So you too can lock it up in your office and allow others to look at it only with permission just like Jerlo. Back the campaign to unlock it.
⏰ Don’t wait too long—this special campaign ends on February 19. Back your tier today and help bring Robin’s illustrated story to life.

Thank you for being part of this magical journey!
Thank you for making this magical adventure possible!
And now back to my reason for taking control of the newsletter today. I recorded an episode of my podcast to share what’s been going on with me recently—both in my personal life and in my creative work.
The last few months have been a rollercoaster. I lost my father in September, and my family’s been adjusting to life without him. On top of that, my day job’s changed drastically after my boss left, and as of December, the company I work for was bought out, which has added even more uncertainty to my schedule.
Despite all of this upheaval, writing continues to be my sanctuary. My characters—and their stories—have carried me through some of my hardest days, and I’ve been pouring myself into their adventures. In this latest podcast episode, I take you behind the scenes of how I’m managing grief, navigating change, and still writing those impossible, magical, heartfelt stories that I love so much even when the characters run around the timeline and force me to write about time travel...
Here’s what I’ve been up to creatively, and what’s coming next:
Creative Updates: New Books, Audiobooks, and Kickstarters!
✨ The Rogue Gods Trilogy: I am working on the full-cast audiobook for books 2 and 3 of the series, but you can listen to Gateway to Hell (Book 1) on Spotify and YouTube. It’s split into 11 episodes, so you can enjoy it in bite-sized chunks.
✨ Chasing Dragons (Curse Breaker Book 11): This book holds a special place in my heart. I finished it after my dad passed away, and it’s dedicated to his memory. It’s about a father fighting to protect his family despite the odds, and I hope it resonates with readers who love stories about courage and resilience. (Ran approved of this statement.)
✨ Upcoming Projects: I’m so excited for my next series, Riders of the Apocalypse, which stars Sovvan (the Angel of Death from His Angelic Keeper) and Fay (the ex-goddess of Fate) as they team up to stop the apocalypse. And of course, Sarn finds a way to join the fight while wondering how that happened… This series is shaping up to be epic, chaotic, humorous, and full of surprises—and I can’t wait to share it with you.
Personal Reflections: Grief, Change, and Hope
Losing my father has fundamentally changed the way I look at my work, my stories, and my goals. In many ways, writing is how I process life. It’s how I heal, how I dream, and how I honor the people I love. Storytelling saved me, and it’s my greatest hope that it resonates and helps others too.
I also want to thank all of you. Whether you’ve emailed me, listened to the podcast, or just picked up one of my books, your support means the world to me, and I couldn’t do this without you.
