Thank You and we spill the tea on free books
Hey!
I’m back with good news. Our project on Kickstarter funded! Thank you to all who pledged.
This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series and his social media coordinator. At least it feels like I am his social media person. Can you imagine my dad making a tiktok or a reel?
I can’t, but I love him anyway! And he has me to tiktok and reel, so he can just do all the cool magical stuff.
Back to our Kickstarter. Since our project funded, there’s no risk to back it now. Every backer will get the story, When Worlds Collide, as a thank you for getting the project funded.
If we reach $1000, we’ll give every backer a copy of Sealed In Blood, a vampire versus a demon dragon novella set in the same world as the Curse Breaker series in addition to the other rewards.
On the print side, if we can get 500 more orders of each omnibus, we can switch to an offset print run and add such bells and whistles as sprayed edges and other things. But we might not reach that this time around. We’re really far from the minimum orders we’d need.
That was our ultimate goal. But we didn’t know if we’d get enough orders and we didn’t want to set up a project with an unreachable goal. So we decided to start with a lower goal and upgrade the hardcover books when we hit the minimum numbers needed for a print run.
That’s why your favorite fictional child is trying to become a tiktok celebrity. But I don’t think that’s working out either since I disappear every time the camera turns in my direction!
No one knows why that happens either. Melinda, my faithful scribe, thinks its because magic and technology don’t mix well. Maybe she’s right. I am magical. After all, I’m the son of a mage.
Maybe I should give up my dreams of taking fantasy booktok by storm and go back to being Papa’s sidekick and chief motivator. You know how much he needs me!
If you don’t know, then there are three omnibuses in ebook or hardcover format that will show you exactly how much he needs me. You can back a tier right now that includes all 3 omnibuses plus the story, When Worlds Collide, by heading over to Kickstarter.
You have until 10:56 am Eastern Time on Oct 14, 2023. So back now just in case your get busy later.
It’s a weird time for a project to end, but we didn’t know we could set a more sensible time. So we’re stuck with it since Kickstarter doesn’t let you change that.
That’s not the only reason I dropped by today. I heard about this thing called a Fantasy Free For All where a bunch of fantasy authors (ours included) are offering free books
And there are a lot of books for free, BUT some books aren't free.
Some books are only free on Amazon and are not free on other stores.
Some books don't have links. So you may need to google search them. Ironically, the books without links that we searched for were actually free.
Some books click through to author websites and have confusing stores on their sites.
Some books have different titles when you reach the retailer site. No idea why.
Our verdict: Overall, it’s a good mix. You just need to look before you buy.
Melinda here. I need to cut in since I was clicking, not Ran. He stood by and pointed at books he liked.
To be fair, I didn't click every book, but I clicked through 50% of them and this was not just my finding but the finding of a fellow author too. We were both clicking through the books and chatting because that’s what authors do instead of writing.
But I am a reader too, I thought I should share what I found because it’s claims are not correct, and that really bothers me. Not all the 130+ books are free. But many of them are.
And you may land on a site where there is no book at all. We saw that too and scratched our heads over it. But it’s worth checking out.
Just please check to make sure the book really is free so you’re not stuck with unexpected charges.
Also, you DON’T need to sign up for anything to see the books. Just scroll past that.
If you want to check it out, here it is:
This is Ran again, stealing back my newsletter.
And that’s is for me. I’m Ran, your fictional host and hopefully, someday, your hero. This message was approved by Melinda, my scribe, and she was really the one clicking through the free for all. And that’s a apt name. We debated sharing this, but in the end, we decided to tell you because we didn’t want to deprive you of free books.
But Melinda added some warnings so you don’t go into it like we did, expecting all the books were free. Because they aren’t.
Download safely! And don’t forget to check out our kickstarter campaign:
See you Monday!
