Hey!
Well, this is awkward. Usually, Melinda is the one asking you to help rein me in, but that's not the case today. And it's so weird. Let me explain.
Actually, first let me introduce myself. I'm Ran, son of Sarn, from the Curse Breaker series, and boy do I have some tea to spill.
But first, thank you! Our Kickstarter is 67% funded! We just need a few more pledges to push us over the edge and get us funded. After you read what I have to say, head over and back it! It’s going to be epic in ways I didn’t see coming.
So what's going on?
As you hopefully know by now, we're in the middle of a Kickstarter for a special edition of our Christmas adventure that Melinda wrote in poems.
But the book has been expanded to include holiday short stories as well so it's 1/3 longer than the original version.
That's all well and good, but this Kickstarter is not just to fund ebooks and paperbacks with pretty full color art, although we are doing that in too, but it's also to create an audiobook.
Listen to a preview of the musical mayhem then come back here for the rest of my rant. I’ll wait.
The preview includes:
the opening titles exactly as they will be in the audiobook I am creating
what the book is about
Ran's holiday rant
the first chapter of the Christmas story, starring Sarn and Ran.
Then I talk about the process of creating an audiobook with a royalty free musical score. It wasn't easy!

Now I thought we were just going to license a couple of songs and put them here and there for holiday vibes. But that's not what Melinda has in mind.
Oh no, She's talking about scoring the entire audiobook like it's a movie as you can hear in those previews above.
I keep telling her it's not a movie, but she's not listening, and she's got a lot of instrumental holiday songs in her cart to use because you can't just use any song you have to license it.
But the licensing can get quite expensive, and I have to keep telling the scribe that she can't spend all the money in her account on this.
That's why this is so weird. She's usually the responsible one. But she's gone crazy, and I don't know what to do. I'm just kid from a fictional fantasy world. This is way outside my realm of experience.
She's talking about having musical themes that come and go depending on what's going on in the story like this is movie or something.
Did you know that she was thinking about purchasing a new clarinet to replace the one she used to play when she was in high school and college?
Why was she thinking of doing this?
Because some of the music she wanted just isn't available for licensing or not that we can find. But we're not experts.
I talked her out of that because she hasn't played the clarinet in 20 years. I don't think she can pick that up and play as well as she used to.
And when would she have the time? She works full-time, and she's supposed to be writing my adventures, not going crazy over all this.
She's treating this audiobook like it's a Broadway show or something. I know she's from New York and Broadway's a big thing there but this a little much.
Of course she doesn't think so. She wants this to be really special. If you haven’t already, go listen to the new preview with musical accompaniment for the Christmas story that Melinda just published then go back the kickstarter.
I’ll be back on Monday as usual but we’ll talk about the paperback and ebooks and the special treats we have in store for them.
—This is Ran, singing off.
Have a great weekend! I need to go collar my scribe. She’s gone crazy!
