Rogue Gods #1: Gateway to Hell
By Melinda Kucsera
Searching For A Spell (Chapter 21) Part 4
“What is that?” Antares asked from the stairwell.
“Some of the eldest of my kind chose a different path long before I existed.” Argeaneal rounded the creature and grasped the key protruding from its back. “That led to a war too between chaos and order. I don’t know who won or if that war ever really ended.” He turned the key until the creature shivered to life, and its pink eyes glowed.
Argeaneal stumbled away and sat on a padded backless chair as metal wings unfolded from the creature’s back. Other than its wings and humanoid shape, they had nothing else in common.
“Where am I?” asked the Agent of Order.
“You’re in Hell, and you’ll help us protect the Library of Forbidden Knowledge.” Argeaneal closed his eyes and tried to remember which objects in the library could also work to defend it, then rose and staggered toward Antares. “Come. We’ve much work to do and probably little time to do it in.”
“You still need to rest.” Antares juggled the crystals. “What am I doing with these?”
“Place them at every entrance and exit. I’ll link them later.” Argeaneal turned back to the windows, looking out at the orangy gloom outside. There was something else he could do too. Argeaneal passed the Agent of Order. “Do whatever he tells you. I’ll be right back.”
“Now where are you going?” Antares asked, and he sounded alarmed.
“To speak to a dread beast about a portal. Maybe he knows something.” When Argeaneal reached the glassless window, he jumped, and his wings snapped out as he glided along the desolate plain between the library and the Spire. Where are you? We met once before at the Spire, so that seemed like the best place to find the creature again.

Argeaneal doesn’t know it yet, but he’s about to take on a magical tunnel that burrows through realms. Only a tenacious angel would take something that big! And by take on, I mean he will fight to destroy it or move it away from his beloved library, whichever is more likely.
The library must be protected at all costs! That epic fight is at the end of Gateway to Hell, book 1 of the Rogue Gods Trilogy.
Back the illustrated editions now before the campaign ends. It’s fully funded, so you are guaranteed to get your copy when the campaign ends.
We’ll be back with more on Monday for our regularly scheduled newsletter, and we’ll be back to our once a week schedule then too. No idea what we’re doing in that newsletter. We’ll see where life or the story leads me!
This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series, signing off! Have an awesome day filled with fun fantasy adventures.
