Hi,
I forgot to mention in the last email that if you bought Chasing Dragons as part of the Rogue Gods Kickstarter, the book is in your Bookfunnel library already. We sent a kickstarter update letting everyone know we sent it on the 24th. But Then I forgot to say it in here.
I am so sorry for any confusion that may have caused. We were so happy everything worked out so we could send it before the holiday, and we got a little caught up in that.
If you didn’t grab it in the Rogue Gods Kickstarter, you can get Chasing Dragons when it releases on January 6 or purchase it now through our shop.
We hope you had a fun Thanksgiving if you celebrated it full of family, good food, and lots of laughs! We definitely did, but not in the way you’d expect.
Our scribe doesn’t like to cook. She’ll do it so she has something to eat since food allergies complicate things. But she would rather not have to cook especially if someone who has the same food allergies is willing to cook for her.
To avoid cooking for the holiday, Melinda offered to pick up her relatives and drive them to the family feast instead. This way, there was no possibility of anyone asking her to cook anything and her relatives who couldn’t drive got a ride. (Melinda did bring a big bag of pistachios and that was her contribution to the feast.)
So it all worked out because I saved the day!
This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series and I’m back to tell you how I saved Thanksgiving. But I didn’t do it the way you think. So what did I do?
Sit back and let me tell you that story.
It all started on Thanksgiving morning. We piled into Melinda’s SUV and headed out past lots of signs warning about road closures from 5th-8th Ave from 30th to 80th streets in the city (yes, that city, New York City!) because of the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Fun fact: Melinda has never gone to the parade despite living close enough to take a train down to see it. But she’s seen it on TV many times. Maybe one day she’ll see it in person, and of course, we’ll go with her! Now back to my story.
Since our quest to pick up Melinda’s aunt and cousin didn’t require us to drive into the city, we ignored the signs. Did I mention it was rainy and cold in NY on Thanksgiving day?
Well, it was, and I had quite the fight on my hands to keep my passengers warm and the windshield fog-free. For some reason, I couldn’t get the car to do both at the same time, so I gave the knob that makes the heat come out of different vents a workout during the 35 minute drive to Melinda’s aunt’s house just north of the Bronx and then on the 50 minute drive to Melinda’s mom’s house in Putnam County.
But I won that fight, and everyone was nice and toasty and Melinda’s aunt could see the road through the windshield well enough to offer advice on what roads to take to get out of Yonkers.
After we reached Melinda’s Mom’s house there was a funny argument over the turkey. Her mom made the sides and the pies and Melinda’s brother ordered a smoked turkey. But on the long ride from the barbecue place in Ridgefield CT to Melinda’s mom’s house, the turkey got cold.
I can’t even blame it because it was cold out. Some guests wanted the turkey reheated which could take an hour. Some guests just wanted to eat it cold with hot gravy since it was already 2:30 pm and pretty much everyone was hungry by then since no one had any lunch.
Since the table was small, we compromised and ate the sides that fit on the table, then the next set of sides, and then the turkey. By then, the turkey was warm again and it was really yummy.
Melinda’s nephew who waited all this time for the smokes turkey asked why the turkey was black. I was wondering the same thing, but I’m fictional and no one except my scribe could see me. It turns out that blackened skin is from the spices and the smoker. So it gave the turkey its flavor.
The meal ended and Melinda’s brother’s little dog desperately wanted to get out and walk around. So Melinda and her cousin went out with the 11 pound furbaby. Thankfully, the rain stopped, so Sasha could amble about and do her business.
After that, I tried to watch a movie about a mega shark (Megalodon?) but I didn’t like the mega shark eating people. So I left my scribe and her nephew to watch that on their own.
(And I’m thankful that:
I don’t live near the ocean
Sharks don’t like freshwater.
We have lots of freshwater under and around Mount Eredren and thus no possibility of any sharks mega or regular sized swimming over to take a bite out of me! But I digress…
I went to see what everyone else was doing and find out what kind of pies Melinda’s mom made and most importantly, when we could have some.
Thankfully, I walked into the kitchen right when the coffee and tea just finished brewing. So it was high time for some pie!
Melinda’s mom made apple crisp and pecan pie, and they were both yummy. I don’t know if my scribe got any because I might have stolen the pie slices from her plate while she was listening to her aunt recount a story about her recent surgery.
Since Melinda’s mom doesn’t like to eat leftovers, she gave my scribe lots of yummy food to take home, and my scribe gratefully accepted them so she could put off cooking for a few more days.
I know what you’re thinking. When did I save Thanksgiving?
My big moment is coming! I promise. After all, the holiday isn’t over until everyone gets home safely.
So we piled into the car again. Melinda took the wheel since it was her SUV. Her cousin rode shotgun, and her aunt sat in the back with a bunch of fictional characters she couldn’t see or hear, and we headed for Yonkers.
Halfway there, my big moment came.
Melinda has dry eyes and has to put drops in pretty frequently to keep her eyes from hurting or blurring her vision. But she’s had that for a long time so she’s very good at putting the drops in while driving.
While Melinda was driving and listening to another story her aunt told, she put the drops in as she always does. But she wasn’t paying attention to where she put the little green bottle. Usually she shoves it into her pocket. But this time, she missed it.
When she went to pull the bottle out to apply more drops, she couldn’t feel it in her pocket. So she pulled off the dark highway and the search began!
But I saw where the bottle went, and I rescued it from the blackhole under the driver’s seat, and thus I saved the day!
Melinda thanked me and put her drops in her eyes to relieve the dryness and we were off on our interrupted trip to Yonkers again!
So that was how I saved Thanksgiving.
Sometimes heroes come in small packages, and sometimes the smallest thing can make the biggest difference.
After all, without those drops, my scribe would have had a hard time driving her aunt and cousin home and then getting home herself. She might even have damaged her eyes, but I don’t want to happen because she needs her eyes to see the screen so she can type more stories for me.
Have a great week!

This is a full-cast recording and we’ll be adding more chapters as often as we can. Some characters are picky about the voices narrating their lives, but the plan is to put out the next 4 chapters next week despite all their squabbling. Wish us luck!
