Happy Thanksgiving! And welcome to our special holiday issue!
This is Melinda and I’m taking over my newsletter to say:
Don’t worry. No turkeys or mages were harmed in the making of this newsletter!
Since we can’t send you a plate of food or a slice of pie, I (Melinda) recorded some of our Thanksgiving adventures from years past and put them together into a special program for your entertainment.
The stories I read are all from Stars & Angels Sing.
The 2023 edition of Stars & Angels Sing also includes stories and poems featuring Sarn and his family in their humorous quest to survive the events of Thanksgiving Day, and the book is 30% longer than the original version, including holiday stories that were written later but are part of the overall holiday storyline.
What’s Stars & Angels Sing about?
The heart of the book is the Christmas story but Ran insisted that I include:
all the Thanksgiving stories he could find,
his tips for surviving the holiday madness,
an introduction I wrote especially for this book,
notes that I wrote for this book about how people in his world know about Christmas,
a summation of the ten currently published books in the Curse Breaker series even though you don’t need to have read them to read Stars & Angels Sing because most of it was written before they were. I say most because he asked me to include some newer stories that fit so well into the storyline it’s like they were written specifically for them.
Ran’s holiday rant (I mean his own special introduction because he felt mine wasn’t enough)
and special introductions to each part of the story because he felt they were necessary
We wanted to include some color illustrations but we ran into some issues with the designer we wanted to work with, but Ran has some ideas. So he may pop back into your inbox on Monday with a solution.
So that’s why it’s about a third longer than the original version. You can thank him for that. Get your copy when the Kickstarter ends. Pledge now!
Kickstarter is a way for authors like me to put projects we want to do up for preorder and fund things like color illustrations and audiobook versions with musical accompaniment. These are things I wouldn’t be able to do without Kickstarter because their platform lets me put the idea out there and take orders, but I only need to fulfill those orders if the project funds.
I am running this campaign for 14 days only so that I can fulfill orders before Christmas. As soon as Kickstarter lets me send surveys to collect information about where to send the rewards you pledge for, I will do so. As soon the surveys are back, I will send out the rewards.
Paperback copies may not arrive by Christmas since I have no control over when the books are printed and sent out or how quickly they will ship. But I will do my best to get them on their way as soon as I possibly can.
So I hope you’ll support my Kickstarter. The funding goal is low since I am doing as much of this myself as I can. The funds will go toward things I can’t do like compose music and make art.
I hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!
—Melinda Kucsera, your indie fantasy author
Ran also wishes you a happy Thanksgiving. He’ll be back on Monday with our regularly scheduled newsletter, and he’ll probably have a thing or two to say about me taking over like this. You probably don’t want to miss that.
