Guess who's back & bursting to talk
Hey, it’s me, Ran! That’s right. I’m back! And I’m bursting to tell you all the things that have been happening behind the scenes.
How much could really have happened in the last few weeks?
A lot actually! And I get to tell you all about. I sent Melinda back behind the scenes to write more stories since I can take over here. So let’s talk!
Up first, the elephant in the room.
The illustrated Kickstarter for the His Angelic Keeper series and Chaos Rises just ended!
If you missed it, don’t panic. You can still pledge for late rewards for a few days longer and grab those special illustrated editions. If that’s not possible, don’t worry.
When Melinda finishes the sequel to Chaos Rises, which is tentatively titled, Chaos Reigns, there will be another chance to get your hands on all three books plus the brand-new Chaos Reigns. (I’m already plotting how to get more page time in that book. Since Melinda isn’t working on it yet, I don’t know if my plan will work yet. So stay tuned.)
Of course, I can’t tell you exactly when that’ll happen. Melinda changed her whole writing schedule because of some big life changes. Right before the kickstarter launched, Melinda discovered the new owners will not be offering her a permanent position. So she’s losing her job soon.
After nearly 16 years working with a team that’s basically become her second family, it will be really tough to say goodbye. So she’s still struggling to adjust to that news, and she’ll miss her team a lot in the coming months.
But you know what scribes do with tough real life stuff?
They write about it! So that means I get extra page time I didn’t know I’d be getting this year. So I’m happy about that but I feel bad about how that came about.
How am I getting more page time?
Melinda moved some books that star me up in her writing queue. Which books are those?
Catch the Scribe, the 1st book in the Tales of a Curse Breaker in NY series, which is actually done but Melinda is holding that book hostage so I behave and don’t drag Papa and Uncle Miren off on too many side quests
Book Battles, the 2nd book in the Tales of a Curse Breaker in NY series, which is nearing the end, and I fear Melinda may hold that book hostage too while she writes:
Rogue Characters, the 3rd book in the Tales of a Curse Breaker in NY series. Melinda plans for this to be the last book that gathers all our early newsletter adventures and expands on them to make them complete adventures.
Rogue Characters is supposed to lead directly into Dragon Spells, the first book in the Curse Breaker’s Companion series. So Melinda will probably hold this book hostage too so I have to cooperate with her plan. But the title suggests that I should not cooperate, so we will see who wins that battle of wills!
You can read Book Battles right now on Substack or Patreon. You can read Catch the Scribe also on Patreon.
Melinda’s focusing on these books right now because Rogue Characters will include that time some corporate goons captured our scribe and we had to find and save her. They left many puzzling clues behind and we emailed the clues to you every week so you could help us unscramble them back in 2018 I think it was.
So I agree that Melinda needs to write that book before she leaves her current job since we actually go to her office to save her and much magical mayhem ensues. I hope that’s not why the new owners don’t want to keep our scribe around.
We could try not to fight monsters in the office anymore. I can’t promise it won’t happen because I don’t control the monsters that come after us, but we could try to move any future monster fights to the sidewalk outside the office. But I don’t know how that would work.
But wait! There’s more!
If you love adventure about found family, unlikely heroes, dragons, magic, more dragons, and absolutely not following the rules—this is a great time to catch up on our books. And for those of you who like to listen to stories, you can now find all our tales on the Eleven Reader app, which features a whole cast of fun voices (yes, even Burt Reynolds—how cool is that?).
Give it a try if you’re into audiobooks. Every listen helps support us!
We added direct links to all our books on the Eleven Reader app on our website, but you can also search Eleven Reader for my scribe’s name, Melinda Kucsera, and all her published books come up since they are all on there.
And—for all the non-Amazon fans—the entire Rogue Gods Trilogy is now out on Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Google Play, Eleven Reader, and even libraries that use subscription services. Find us wherever magic, mischief, and myth are sold.
Whew! That’s a lot—and there’s even more adventure coming soon.
So thank you for sticking with me (and Melinda). Promise me you’ll check out the latest stories, or listen if you’d rather, and keep an eye out for your next shot at those gorgeous illustrated books.
I’m off to plan how to get more page time because it’s never enough!
Your favorite sidekick,
Ran, and I’m writing with permission from my scribe, Melinda. (She says hi!)
