Gateways to Hell and Misbehaving Scribes

A lot happened this week, so let’s dive into book news first since my Scribe, Melinda Kucsera, forgot we agreed not to talk about the next book until after the Kickstarter. It’s like we never had that conversation.

But we did! She just doesn’t remember it. At least that’s what I assume happened when she posted a certain thing.

This is Ran, Sarn’s son, and your host for this newsletter. I co-star in the Curse Breaker series, and I’ll be your guide today.

First, let’s return to the issue of our misbehaving Scribe. Do you know what she did?

She posted this on social media:

This is Ran again. So what am I so upset about?

The part where she says “**Parts of Rogue Gods is set concurrently with Chasing Dragons (Curse Breaker #11 - coming soon), Hidden (His Angelic Keeper #2), Rogue Rescue (Robin of Larkspur #4 - coming soon) because the characters decided we needed to do that.”

I’m a character, and I agreed to no such thing. I want that on record before I pull back the curtain and show you all the drama that’s been going on behind the scenes for the last 3 months. Because there was a lot of it, and it involved the casts of 3 books.

Before I tell you all about that, I need to tell you about a cool thing we want to do in October. What do we want to do?

We want to hold our first AMA on our podcast!

Right now, we’re planning to record 2 episodes. One episode will be just questions submitted by you!

For the second episode, we’re looking for a few readers to come on the podcast and talk to Melinda about our books!

This is totally free. Let me repeat that.

When will we record the episodes?

For the interview show, we’ll determine that with the readers who are interested in coming on the podcast. If there’s a lot of interest, then we may have more than one interview episode.

Everyone who’s interested should fill out the form. Don’t worry if you’re not in the US. If you want to come on the podcast, then we’ll find a time that works for you and Melinda even if we need to go into a different month to find it. So don’t let worries about your time zone get in the way.

The other cool thing we’re doing in October is a Kickstarter for hard cover omnibuses. The proofs should arrive in the next week or two, so we’ll have real images soon. Until then, I can share mockups!

The hardcover omnibus version of Curse Breaker Books 4-6 will have a glossy dustjacket and case laminate cover. Both will have the same art. Plus it’s digitally signed by Melinda and bears the Queen of All Trees’ mark of approval. The ebook version of the ominus will also have the new art treatment.

And now back to the drama. Where do I even start?

I guess we need to go back to right after Shards For His Gift (Curse Breaker #10) came out. Remember how I said that book ends on a cliffhanger?

That’s because a character who’s in Rogue Gods: Gateway to Hell showed up and made some wild accusations right after Melinda ended Shards For His Gift. That’s why it ends where it does.

Anyway, this person also threw around some powerful magic and caused some big problems for your heroes, namely me and Papa. But we never saw this character before. I’m not kidding!

But this person knew stuff about us, and that was confusing to say the least. So Melinda had to stop writing Chasing Dragons (Curse Breaker #11) and figure out:

Who is this person?
What do they want?
How did they find us? Because you know how Papa likes to hide. He’s not easy to find.
Are any of this person’s claims about Papa true?

That last question was the most important one in my opinion, but I’m not the Scribe. Plot holes are her problem. I just wave as I leap over them.

But this email is getting a bit long so I’ll save the rest of the drama for next week.
