Do You Want Some Spoilers?
This week, we're digging deep into the lore and pulling out all the secrets!
Hey,
I’m back again in your inbox with the best kind of news, book news! I have lots of things to say about that but first, an update on SPFBO 9.
As far as we know, Curse Breaker Enchanted is still in the running, and this is super important to me because I’m the son of the main character. You guess it. I’m Ran.
If you don’t have a copy, you can get Curse Breaker Enchanted alone or in an omnibus with books 2 and 3 to keep it company. After all, books get lonely too.
This week, Melinda, our intrepid Scribe, interviewed:
R. Lindsay Carter, author of the fantasy series, Unfamiliar Territory that has such a cool twist, you need to listen to the excerpt she reads in the interview because it’s too good to spoil.
MT Ximny, author of the YA superhero fantasy book, BETA, and they talked about superheroes in fantasy worlds and what is an Apex?
Todd Fahnestock, author of Khyven the Unkillable: Legacy of Shadows, and she got him to divulge a lot of spoilers! She may even have suggested some things that could show up in the future book in the World of Eldros fantasy series, and we’re going to try to get the other authors who write in that shared world to come by so Melinda can talk them into giving us even more spoilers.
JE Pittman, author of Felix Chance: Volume One, and of course, she got the insider scoop on who Felix is and why he’s living like Doctor Who and the Twilight Zone.
Where can you listen all four episodes? Fear not, fair listeners, I come bearing links!
Start at our podcast’s official home, where you can find links to it on Spotify, Apple, iHeart Radio, Amazon, etc or listen right on that page.
Or head over to YouTube and listen/watch all 4 episodes here. We set up a playlist to make all the interviews easy to find.
A few notes about the interviews:
All the excerpts this week were PG-13, but they’re all rated S for spoilers.
We hope you’ll give them all a listen and remember to cheer our book on, so Curse Breaker Enchanted will reach the semifinals.
And now for the books news! Drum roll please!
Okay, enough drama. What’s the news?
Shards For His Gift is done!
I know what you’re thinking. How’s that possible?
Well, a few days ago, Jerlo held an intervention. I swear it wasn’t me this time! But I fully supported it because it would get the next book out to you sooner and I could get more page time.
What were his demands?
Jerlo told Melinda that she should break her current WIP into two books! So there was some back and forth for a bit, and Melinda went off to reread. And that’s when she noticed there’s a definite point where Shards For His Gift ends.
Then there’s all this cool stuff after that, where we do spoilery things like chase dragons and deal with ex-goddesses, but that should all be in a separate book. So I can get more page time, of course, but also to allow those events to take center stage. They can’t do that in Shards For His Gift because it’s meant to be a cozier adventure where all the things you’ve been waiting for happen.
In the end, Melinda agreed with our assessment, and she split Shards For His Gift off of her main wip and tentatively titled our next adventure, Chasing Dragons because we do that a lot in that WIP plus other things.
This change will also allow her to bring back some events that were pushed to Jousts and put them in Chasing Dragons because they don’t belong in Jousts anyway. So Jousts will be the sequel to Chasing Dragons instead now.
So that’s our big book news. Shards For His Gift needs to go through final editing since Melinda went through it so many times already looking at the plot and characterization that all we have left to do is hunt for typos.
I asked for a sword to help with that, but she said no. So I don’t know how I’m supposed to slay these typos without one. I guess I’ll just improvise and let you know next week how that went.
And yes, I’m still thinking about fighting sentient furniture. When you read Shards For His Gift, you’ll know why.
