Chaos Rises because I'm scheming again
Yes, your favorite character is back with a new plan to get more page time. Plus, Chaos Rises publishes on Sept 27! Links, details, and side quests inside!
Hi, I’m back and I might have been a bit hasty. Melinda might also be mad at me for scolding her in public.
She says she’s rewatching Kpop Demon Hunters because she’s analyzing it, and she’s thinking about writing up something about some aspects she’s not seen anyone discuss and maybe recording that as a podcast episode/YouTube Video essay.
But that’s what every YouTuber/Podcaster says. Seriously, do a search and you’ll see a lot of folks claim no one’s talking about some aspect they noticed.
Before you come after me, some of those titles are accurate and the host did talk about stuff we didn’t know before watching their content.
Also, I have a magical Papa, and he wouldn’t like it if you actually came after me. A dragon tried that in Dragon Spells, and it didn’t end well for her. I’m Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series in case you forgot. But I digress. Back to my story.
So I asked Melinda what are these things?
If they’re interesting then maybe I’ll let her do this AFTER she finishes Storm Spells. After all, I have to keep her priorities straight, and you can’t read all my brand new adventures until it’s done. So I have to keep her on track.
Melinda often complains that she has to work twice as hard to keep us characters on track. But I want it on record that we have to do the same especially when she’s obsessed with some new book or movie. But I digressed again.
What did she say?
Melinda had a list. A list! I wasn’t prepared for that.
Should I let Melinda write up and discuss what she noticed about the characters, the symbolism, the plot structure, and the lyrics?
I don’t know if you’re as obsessed with Kpop Demon Hunters as she is. If you are, then maybe you want her to write up and share her thoughts on the movie she loves.
Book News!
(and what I’ve been scheming about)
Chaos Rises publishes everywhere on Sept 27, 2025! Get Chaos Rises now everywhere you buy books:
Did you look at the calendar and guess that might be the case?
If you’ve been with us for a while then you know we try to publish at least one book on (or as close as we can possibly get to) Sept 27 and March 10 every year.
Why do we do that?
Because Sept 27 is the birthday of Melinda’s late sister and March 10 is Melinda’s birthday.
Since Melinda promised her sister that she would FINISH and PUBLISH all the stories she writes, we have to publish something on her late sister’s birthday. I don’t make the rules. Melinda’s sister did. I just make sure we FOLLOW the RULES.
I just looked at the calendar and realized this week that Melinda didn’t put Chaos Rises on preorder yet, so I got that corrected ASAP. Chaos Rises can’t come out on Sept 27 if it’s not on retailers getting ready to publish. But I fixed that, so it’s definitely coming out that day.
If you missed the Kickstarter back in May or wanted to get a copy from your favorite store, all the store links are here!
Chaos Rises will be available from Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Libby and more! You can order it now.
If you missed the Kickstarter but you want the illustrated version of Chaos Rises OR you decided to wait to get the whole 4-book series, I have some good news!
Since Melinda’s has been obsessed with Kpop Demon Hunters to the point where she bought t-shirts with the two fictional bands on them, (shirts she can’t wear except on the weekend), I might have offered to get Papa to do a story she’s been wanting to tell.
BUT! Melinda has to finish the Riders of the Apocalypse series so she can write that story because they come first chronologically. We try to do things in chronological order when we can.
So as soon as Melinda finishes writing Storm Spells, she’ll start book 2 of the Riders of the Apocalypse series: Chaos Reigns.
We’re hoping for a spring 2026 launch for the remaining 3 books in the series on or around Melinda’s birthday. You can follow that kickstarter here.
Is that date possible?
It might be because Melinda wrote the joust part of Curse Breaker Jousts after attending a joust at the NY Renaissance Fair in 2012. So She just needs to write the beginning and the climactic battle with the Riders of the Apocalypse since that’s all new stuff. And maybe update the joust part so it all flows.
What about the sequels to Relic Hunter?
Mage Hunter, the sequel to Relic Hunter was supposed to be next, but the outline isn’t working. So it wasn’t hard to convince Melinda to move the Riders of the Apocalypse series up.
Don’t ask how I’ll get Papa to do that story I promised Melinda because I don’t know yet. But I’ll get lots of page time if I can convince him, so I’ll be scheming a way to do that, and of course, I’ll run all my schemes by you. After all, you’re my sounding board.
What’s that story about?
I’d better not tell you in case I can’t convince him. Papa can be an immovable object sometimes, and not even my cuteness or my powers of persuasion can sway him. So I’ll report back in the coming months about that story and save the details for when I get a yes from him.
Next week, we’ll do a preview of Chaos Rises, and this time, I will share the spoilery first chapter since we shared the second chapter last time.
Now’s a great time to catch up on the His Angelic Keeper series since the 4th book in that series unleashes the Riders of the Apocalypse, and my aunt has to stop them permanently in this new series. So lots of pressure!
What’s Chaos Rises about?
Sovvan never asked to become the Angel of Death. She didn’t want the title, and she definitely doesn’t want to stop the Apocalypse. But the former Angel of Death will stop at nothing to reclaim the powers she lost, and she’s set her sights on Sovvan’s closest friend: Fay, the immortal goddess of fate and the future, who thwarted her for thousands of years.
Fay and her demigod children can still die, even if Sovvan can’t. With the clock ticking, Sovvan must master her new powers to save her friend and protect the fragile future that keeps their world alive.
Without Fay, there’s no timeline, no future, and no tomorrow. Time itself will grind to a halt, unraveling the world in an explosive, final collapse.
Death is coming. Time is running out, and the Apocalypse waits for no one.
Can Sovvan stop the end of everything, or will her hesitation doom them all?
***
I hope she can stop them because I’d like to grow up and get some magic. Preorder Chaos Rises now.
That’s it for this week. See you next Monday!
