Books so shiny, you'll want to pet them!
Hey,
Another week begins! And guess what? We got the final proofs for the Rogue Gods Trilogy and they are so pretty! The post delivery person threw the box at the door, startling my scribe, so that wasn’t so great.
But the books were packed so well, they were absolutely perfect despite the delivery person hurling the box they were in like it was a shot put or a javelin. They should practice for the 2028 olympic trials with their own mail, not ours!
The books survived this abuse and they are gorgeous! The printer upgraded their machines and possibly also the paper stock so the gold foil on the covers is raised!
So if you run your hand over the cover or back cover or spine or the dust jacket, you can feel the areas that have gold foiling. It’s really cool. The new artwork looks great too. I promise we looked at them before petting the books again. The matte finish also feels velvetier but I can’t confirm that’s because the paper is different. But it feels more lux than the previous proofs.
If you want to get your hands on your own copies so you can pet them too and hopefully read them, you have until August 31 to order them here. After that, they’ll be gone, and we can work on the retail versions then.
In other book news, Melinda is working on Rogue Gift and I’m pretty sure someone ran off with the plot. It wasn’t me, since I’m a baby in the book. Sorry to disappoint you. I promise to run off with the plot in another book real soon.
(This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series, reporting all the book news there is. And now back to our newsletter.)
Actually, that’s all the book news I have for you today because it’s time to return our newsletter to its roots. Yes, it’s that time. Are you ready for a new story?
Okay it’s not new for me since I’ve been waiting for Melinda to finish this story for years, but it is new for you, and that still counts.
Remember a few weeks ago when I said we’d have a story in our newsletters each week again? Well, my friends, that starts today! But you need a little background first. So I wrote you a note.
Hi Readers!
This is Ran. My father is Sarn. He's also the hero of the books in the Curse Breaker series, but I run our scribe’s weekly newsletter. And you’re wondering how that came about.
Admit it. You’re curious about how a fictional child from an epic fantasy world with no internet access or computing devices could write to you. Well, this book aims to tell that tale.
Without further ado, I’d like to welcome you to the official novelization of our genre-bending, world-crossing newsletter adventures. Did I mention it’s official?
After much begging and cajoling, I convinced our scribe, Melinda Kucsera, (the nice lady who invented me) to take our weekly forays into her world and turn them into a book.
This is that story. In it, we’ll show you how Papa and I accidentally wandered off the pages of Curse Breaker Enchanted into our scribe’s world, aka the real world.
And of course, how we found our way back again because we did. We had starring roles in Curse Breaker Faceted, our third full-length adventure.
This story shows you what we were doing during Curse Breaker Darkens and why we didn’t appear in that book until close to the end. Jerlo had to handle a demon all on his own, poor guy. That’s all I’ll say about that. You’ll have to read Curse Breaker Darkens for that tale.
Our scribe has strict rules about the whole being in two places at one time thing. (Basically, we’re not allowed to do that.) So while Jerlo dealt with that demon, Papa and I were busy adventuring in your world. <3
We hope you enjoy that story. And now, it’s time for us to take our places. So here we go. I hope you enjoy Catch the Scribe. Because that’s what we aim to do, catch a scribe and make her our scribe. Failure is not an option!
—Ran, son of Sarn writing on behalf of my scribe, Melinda Kucsera
Okay, that note wasn’t as explanatory as I thought it was, so let me try that again. The story that will begin publishing in our newsletter each week is called Catch the Scribe.
What’s it about?
When grief threatens to overwhelm a lonely scribe, the fate of her fictional world hangs in the balance. If she doesn’t finish the book and get it into the hands of readers, all her characters will disappear forever.
Worse still, her deceased sister’s last request will go unfilled. That’s one promise this scribe doesn’t want to break.
But there are shadowy forces who don’t want her story told, and they’ll use any means to stop her. She’ll need help from a fictional child and his father, the heroes of her unfinished book, to get her story back on track. But first, they need to escape their fictional world and enter the real one.
This previously unreleased story tells who created the portal that features so heavily in the stories in Melinda’s weekly, genre-bending newsletter, why they did it, and how it came to be.
So that’s the story. Open next week’s newsletter for the first part. Have an awesome week!
