Are you gonna be golden?
We're golden! The proof copies are here. See the gold foiled designs and finally, the edge design on actual pages. Plus more of your favorite kind of news, book news.
Hi! I know. I don't usually stop by twice in the same week, but I just couldn't wait until next Monday because we’re golden!
(This is Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series, reporting to you live from NY again. And yes, I’m still searching for my scribe. No, I’m not standing around staring at the big screens in Times Square or people watching. But I wish I was! Back to my news!)
Why next Monday and not the Monday coming up?
Because I promised to continue the preview of Chaos Rises this coming Monday. So to keep that promise, I'd have to wait a whole other week to tell you stuff, and I just can't wait that long.
You'll forgive me, right?
This is the real Ran, the only son of the guy who puts the Curse Breaker in the Curse Breaker series. Not to be confused with the other people claiming to be me because of this whole multiverse thing.
We all know there's only one Ran. The new trilogy based on our newsletter adventures are called A Curse Breaker in NY, not Welcome to the Ranverse. So if you see any other characters who look like me and talk like me, just know they aren't me even if they claim to be me.
This will all make sense when you read the expanded newsletter adventures series. That's what we're calling the two trilogies that are based on our newsletter adventures.
What trilogies are part of this Newsletter Adventure series?
I’m so glad you asked. The Newsletter Adventure series includes:
A Curse Breaker in NY series
Catch the Scribe
Book Battles
Rogue Characters
Curse Breaker’s Companion series
Dragon Spells
Rogue Spells
Storm Spells
Why am I telling you this? It’ll be important later, so keep this in mind while I gush about the best kind of news:
Book News!
We got books! I mean we got proof copies.
What did we get?
We got paperback copies of:
Catch the Scribe
Book Battles
Rogue Characters
Dragon Spells
Rogue Spells
But not Storm Spells because Melinda is still writing that book. I'll come back to that in a moment.
So we got copies of the non-illustrated copies, and they printed really dark. We're not sure if that's the luxurious matte finish which is so velvety soft that caused that or the new monitor we got the scribe. It could be both for all we know.
Not to worry! Melinda lightened up the covers, and we ordered another set of proofs. So this one is a to be continued.
I'll report back when we've received them. But I think the next time, they'll be perfect. We'll see who's right.
But wait! That's not all. We also received copies of:
A Curse Breaker in NY Books 1-3 - illustrated hardcover (it has Catch the Scribe, Book Battles & Rogue Characters inside)
Newsletter Adventures Books 1-2 - illustrated paperback (it has Catch the Scribe & Book Battles inside)
Newsletter Adventures Books 3-4 illustrated paperback (it has Rogue Characters & Dragon Spells inside)
And they look awesome! The blue printed darker than we thought, but the gold looks so pretty on it!
But wait! There's even more. We finally get to see the edges!
Weeks ago, I showed you the edge design, but we had no idea how it would look when the we sent the files to the printer. Now we know and it looks great!
We were hoping the skyline would look like it's meeting its reflection on the Hudson River. And it does!
This is how it looks when the book is closed:
I'm happy to report that the paperback omnibuses, which have exactly the same interior formatting as the hardcovers, do the same thing! The illustrated paperback omnibuses just contain one less book so we don't put stress on the spine. That's the only difference.
Since the two trilogies have different edges, the second paperback omnibus has both edge designs and it looks very cool when closed like a chessboard almost. We hoped it would but we had no idea if we got the margins right.

And let's not forget the gold foil! All three books have gold foil on the front, back and spine:
The above image shows the backs of A Curse Breaker in NY Books 1-3 - illustrated hardcover and Newsletter Adventures Books 1-2 - illustrated paperback are identical and they feature a gold foiled image of me showing Papa something very important to the plot of Catch the Scribe.
The back of Newsletter Adventures Books 3-4 illustrated paperback has a dragon surrounded by magic while reading a book because books are magical. They can be portals to other worlds!
Here are the gold foiled spines of all three books:
Why did we put Newsletter Adventures on the spine and cover of the illustrated paperbacks?
Because the second illustrated paperback has one book from each trilogy so we would have had to put both trilogies’ titles on it and we could not find a way to do it that looked good. But both trilogies are based on adventures published in our newsletter so it made sense to call them what they are.
I hope you’re okay with that. Melinda struggled to find another option but nothing worked. So I suggested she just title the illustrated paperback omnibuses what they are.
Whether you like illustrated books or plain ones, hardcover or soft cover, we have something to delight you in our upcoming Kickstarter!
Now I just need the scribe to finish Storm Spells so we can get the last proof copies and kick off the campaign. It’s looking more like the campaign will launch in December instead of November. But I’ll keep you posted.
That’s all I have for you this week, but it’s exciting news!
Don’t forget to follow the campaign:
