Hi! It’s your favorite character here with another update! That’s right. It’s Ran, Sarn’s son from the Curse Breaker series, and I’m a little salty this week. I’ll tell you why in a moment. Stick around, because things have been more chaotic and magical than usual, and that’s saying something coming from me.
But first, let’s talk about the best news there is, book news!
✨ The proof for Rogue Night is Perfect!
So we all exhaled a collective sigh of relief after opening that package. Since it was the third try from the printer, we were a little worried about what we’d find. But our fears were groundless, thank God!
The proof for Rogue Night, book 2 of the Robin of Larkspur series arrived, and the paperback is GORGEOUS! I am not exaggerating. The title in gold foil looks stunning on top of the cover art. The deep red edges are vibrant, and the interior illustrations turned out beautifully. 🎉
Since everything checked out, my scribe, Melinda, placed all the remaining paperback orders for the Robin of Larkspur Special Edition Kickstarter! So now we wait for the printer to print them. But all the paperbacks and hardcover books are all in the queue finally, so they are one step closer to their new homes.
Thank you again for supporting this magical adventure—your excitement and patience mean the world to my scribe, Melinda and to me too because as a fictional character, I only exist when you read my books. So getting books to you is my second highest priority behind getting more page time.
That’s all awesome but what about new books?
🖋️ Writing Updates!
So, how are the new books coming?
Chaos Rises: The editing continues. Slowly but surely, Melinda is chipping away at it and polishing Sovvan and Fay’s next chaotic adventure to a high shine.
The book contains humorous fight scenes starring everyone’s favorite dragon shifter, Faylon, and Misriah, my papa’s guardian angel since my aunt likes to point that the warrior angel at supernatural threats and let her have at them. I’ll leave you to speculate about who they fight and if they team up. This is a spoiler-free newsletter.
Catch the Scribe: Let’s just say nothing got written this week on this book. Nothing. So I’m pouting in the corner. Did I mention I’m salty about it?
Why did nothing get written? Reality Got in the Way. :( Work was unexpectedly busy, and my scribe was mentally worn out. I offered her coffee, but she doesn’t like it. I need to find another way to caffeinate her.
😴 A Message and a Dream
This is where things get weird. One night this past week, Melinda dreamed something so unbelievable, I must share it with you.
I swear I had nothing to do with it. Papa can vouch for me. I was in our cave all night so I don’t know what really happened. But the dream rattled Melinda so much, it changed her plans for the foreseeable future.
What happened in the dream?
The dream was really dark so Melinda couldn’t see anything at first. But she heard a woman’s voice.
What did the voice say?
Well, it didn’t tell her to build a library in Hell that’s for sure. Besides, Argeaneal already did that in the Rogue Gods series. All joking aside, the voice asked why there’s no fancy books for the His Angelic Keeper series.
Back to the dream. Melinda got suspicious when that question came at her. But the darkness lightened at the same time due to the bright glow that swooped down in front of her. The glow separated into a woman in a long white dress with wings and a halo.
The woman pointed out that, and rightly so, that there are no hardcover editions of the His Angelic Keeper series. There are no fancy paperbacks either, and the series omnibus makes no sense since the series ended with 4 books and what would have been book 5 became Chaos Rises, and Chaos Rises is the first book in the new Riders of the Apocalypse series. This is true.
Melinda decided to split the series because the characters went to great and sometimes humorous lengths to make Chaos Rises an entry point into our world because they wanted it to be the first book in new series. Melinda will only fight with us for long before she gives in, and she didn’t argue much against this because His Angelic Keeper Tempted did close out the story arc in that series. The characters in that book demanded multiple epilogues. So it kind of does the Lord of the Rings thing and ends more than once.
Did our scribe’s late sister, Carolyn, whisper ideas from the great beyond? Or did a character from the His Angelic Keeper series issue these demands?
Either is possible, but Melinda swears she heard her sister’s voice. Could a character have mimicked her?
It’s possible. I can’t rule that out since there’s a portal in Melinda’s apartment that connects her apartment to our world. So an angel could have flown through it. After all, the guardian angels for my family know exactly where it is.
But I think we can rule out Misriah since whispering to sleeping scribes is too sneaky for someone as straightforward and bold as her. If she wanted a special edition, she would have just shown up and demanded it.
What did the angel request?
Two physical omnibuses: books 1 & 2 in one, and books 3 & 4 in the other in either paperback or hardcover or both. (She left it up to the printer specifications to decide that since printers have maximum page counts they can print per format.)
Lots of gold foil: Not just the title, but intricate, fancy designs on the covers featuring angels, of course.
Interior artwork of the angels: The angel wants all the art Melinda created for the series when she was learning digital painting and 3D modeling included in these books with some new black-and-white artwork like appeared in the Rogue Gods Special Edition Trilogy. (Apparently, the angel liked that a lot!)
How’s Melinda dealing with this request?
I’ll be honest. She’s pretty rattled. She didn’t plan to do a special edition for the His Angelic Keeper series or any special editions for a while. But she’s also convinced her sister came to her in a dream and asked for it, so how can she say no?
Right now, Melinda is searching for the artwork she made for the series, most of which she never shared with anyone. She hasn’t looked at them since 2022 when His Angelic Keeper Tempted published, so she doesn’t remember where they are located on her hard drive or how many images there were.
So that’s step one: gather the art and then see where we stand.
I may need to help her find them to move this along. Melinda said the angel wanted these books to come out as soon as possible since the artwork already exists. That makes this is an all hands on deck kind of situation where every character must pull their own weight.
If you’re feeling like you have whiplash, so are we. This wasn’t planned. But we’re exploring the possibility. That’s all we can commit to right now without looking into it. This just goes to show that we never really know what’s in store for us.
Have you ever had a dream that someone from beyond the grave came to talk to you? What did they ask you to do?
Thank you, as always, for your patience and support for all the magic and mayhem!
I’ll keep you updated if the His Angelic Keeper special editions take shape.
The edits take priority right now, so I may not have much to share on this until the edits are completed and we found the art the angel wants. Have a great week!
