A Furball and a Dragon walk into a portal
Hey,
Welcome back to our regularly scheduled newsletters. We’re back to our once a week schedule, and I have can confirm that I got into lots of trouble for your entertainment.
In case you forgot, I’m Ran, the fictional son of an equally fictional mage from the epic fantasy Curse Breaker series. I’m also his unofficial sidekick, but I’m taking steps to become officially recognized.
But I might have backslid a little and did something that might disqualify me if my dad ever finds out. What did I do?
Let’s put a pin in that came back to it later. I promise this email won’t end without me telling you that. I just want to share some book news first since I’m a fictional character, and I only exist when you read my story. That’s the real reason why I took over this newsletter, and so I can shape your opinions of some of my fellow cast members.
My dad doesn’t need any help capturing hearts since he’s a nice, quiet guy who’s very magical and always in trouble. Seriously! He gets into more trouble than I do, and he doesn’t need to do anything to get into said trouble. It finds him.
I’m working on reaching that level. Right now, I have to search for trouble, then dive into it. Or I have to make the trouble, which might be what happened. But I’ll come back to that later.
I did some good things this week too, and I’d like some credit for that before I have to tell you about the trouble I got into. Maybe the good will cancel out the bad? Only you can decide that.
What good things did I do this week?
I made a sales page! For a limited time, you can get all 4 hardcover omnibuses (Curse Breaker Books 1-3, Curse Breaker Books 4-6, Curse Breaker Books 7-9, and Robin of Larkspur Books 1-3). I just put the shipping for the US since I knew what that cost because I had to order a set for us, and we’re in the US.
If you’re somewhere else in the world, just hit reply and tell us your country and zip code, and we’ll figure out the shipping and add your country as an option.
We were going to charge anyone who wanted a set through PayPal, but I argued that we should use our store for that so there’s records and all the info is one place. So if you want to get all 4 for the holidays, you can grab the bundle here.
It takes about 5-6 weeks for the order to fly over the Atlantic Ocean to the printer and for the printer to print the books and ship them back over the Atlantic Ocean. So if you want all 4 special edition hardcover omnibuses before Christmas, you’d better order now.
Kickstarter should be releasing the funds sometime next week or the week after. So we’ll be ordering all the books then. If you would like to order a different bundle option, you can do that here.
Onto some more book news. The Rogue Gods trilogy is 50% complete since part 2, Summon the Gods, is 50% done. I play a fun but important role in it as an adult, and I have magic!
Robin’s daughter, Rosalie, is also in it. She’s also grown up, and she plays a major role in the book. So you can see how well she turned out as she fights to save the future from the demons that invade our home.
Because the 3 books that make up the Rogue Gods Trilogy are so intertwined, we decided that they should be released together. Since our last Kickstarter did so well, we decided to release the trilogy the same way except this time, you’ll have a choice of ebooks, paperbacks or a hardcover omnibus that collects all 3 books. Follow our campaign:
It won’t launch until the third book is completely written. So that’s still a little ways away.
Melinda is writing the trilogy 4 chapters a week and posting them on Patreon. Since our books are about 40-60 chapters long, depending on the story and how often the characters go off and do their own thing, our books take about 10-20 weeks (2.5-3 months to write). So it probably won’t launch until January at the earliest.
And now, I’d better tell you what trouble I got into this week. *Gulp*
But I need to start by saying it wasn’t totally my fault. Furball was there too, and he could have said something, but he didn’t. So he bears some responsibility for what happened.
What did we do?
Let’s start from the beginning. In Curse Breaker Revealed, my living situation changed again. At the end of the book, my family moved in with a new family. You’ll have to read the sequel (Shards For His Gift) to find out how Papa feels about that since he was kind of unconscious at the time the decision to move was made. So he didn’t get a say.
I didn’t either, but I don’t usually get sa say, and they had cookies. Our previous home didn’t have cookies, so I probably would have agreed to go if some did ask my opinion. Besides, Papa was unconscious and hurt badly and needed some medical attention, so I would have gone anyway just to stay close to him.
Don’t worry. Papa is healing fine. I know this because he got in a lot of trouble in the sequel, and the only times he doesn’t get into trouble are when he’s very ill or hurt badly. So it’s a good sign that he’s throwing around magic like its nothing at all.
But I digress. So since he was healing up and sleeping a lot and Uncle Miren had to go to school, that left me with not much to do. So when a portal opened up in the living room, I might have walked through it without a second glance. after all, it showed up to entertain me. So I had to check it out, right?
A bright flash signaled my best buddy’s arrival, and I dove to catch him. Furball doesn’t teleport well, so he’s always falling. And as his best friend, it’s my job to catch him. So this next part really wasn’t my fault.
I might have slipped on something. Maybe it was a carpet or a mat. I didn’t look because I went flying head first into a curtain. I grabbed hold to stop my fall, and there was this ripping sound. Then Furball landed on me.
Thankfully, he doesn’t weigh too much since he’s furry and about a foot tall. But his weight and mine together was enough to yank the screws out of the wall and knock the rod down. But we didn’t know that because we landed in a heap of cloth on the floor.
When we finally disentangled ourselves, we found the rod on the floor and a hole in the plaster where it probably connected to it. We tried to put the rod back, but Furball can just teleport and I can just get into trouble. I have no other magic yet, so the rod didn’t go back to where it was with all its screws holding it to the wall.
At this point, we probably should have asked for help from an adult. But we have a friend who’s a baby dragon, and dragons can breathe fire in all the tales that matter. So you can probably guess where this is going…
But I’ll let you wonder if we called upon our dragon friend to help us until next week.
